CPC PAC Congratulates Gina Ortiz Jones on Primary Win After GOP Rival Will Hurd Votes for Disastrous Republican Banking Bill

Washington, D.C. – May 23rd – The Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC (CPC PAC), the political arm of the 78-member Congressional Progressive Caucus, congratulated Gina Ortiz Jones today on becoming the Democratic nominee in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District. Ortiz Jones will face Republican Will Hurd in November.

Ortiz Jones, an Iraq veteran who supports universal health care and comprehensive immigration reform, is running as an economic populist and is expected to make the contrast with Hurd’s record a centerpiece of her general election pitch to voters. Hurd voted for yesterday’s disastrous banking bill and for the deeply unpopular 2017 corporate  tax giveaway.

Hurd, sometimes inaccurately described as a moderate, votes with President Trump 97.4 percent of the time, according to fivethirtyeight.com. That figure is almost 38 percent higher than expected given Trump’s small margin of victory in the district in 2016.

CPC PAC will provide continued support for Ortiz Jones and looks forward to welcoming her as a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus – the largest values-based caucus in the House of Representatives – in the 116th Congress.
