[WASHINGTON, DC] – June 13, 2020 – The Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC today announced its endorsement of Ritchie Torres for New York’s 15th congressional district.

“There are dramatic stakes in this race. Ruben Diaz Sr. is an anti-LGBTQ, anti-choice Democrat who would undermine our work and be at odds with our values,” said CPC PAC Co-Chairs Mark Pocan, Pramila Jayapal, and Jamie Raskin. “Ritchie Torres will fight hard for progressive values and the people of New York’s 15th district, and he has built the coalition needed to win this race. The Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC is proud to endorse Ritchie Torres.”

“The members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC have been at the forefront of fighting for the most important issues confronting Americans: minimum wage increase, comprehensive immigration reform, climate change, ensuring access to quality healthcare, and more,” said Ritchie Torres. “I’m proud to have their endorsement and support in this race that will determine representation in the South Bronx and ensure that a Trump-Republican does not win. In Congress, I look forward to working with them to advance and elevate these important progressive issues nationally.”

In May, the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC signed onto a letter condemning Ruben Diaz Sr.’s anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ record. Other signers of the letter included Planned Parenthood Action Fund, LGBTQ Victory Fund, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Latino Victory Fund, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC, Bend the Arc Jewish Action, Human Rights Campaign, Equality PAC, and People for the American Way.

Torres joins the CPC PAC’s previous endorsements of the 2020 election cycle, including challenger candidates Dana Balter (NY-24), Kara Eastman (NE-02), Georgette Gomez (CA-53), Jon Hoadley (MI-06), JD Scholten (IA-04), Kai Kahele (HI-02), and Candace Valenzuela (TX-24), Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM-03), Marie Newman (IL-03), Mondaire Jones (NY-17) and Beth Doglio (WA-10).
