WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC (CPC PAC) announced its endorsement of Erica Smith for North Carolina’s 1st congressional district.

“I am so excited and honored to have the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC’s support. I’m running for Congress to take on a rigged economy, broken healthcare system, and the corrupt politics that have devastated my community,” said State Sen. Erica Smith. “It’s been the CPC that has led the fight to ensure universal healthcare and living wages, get dark money out of our politics, and deliver bold climate action. I know that with their backing we can protect this seat, and build a brighter future for the people of eastern North Carolina.”

“State Sen. Erica Smith has been a leading voice for reproductive, environmental, economic, and racial justice in North Carolina. She’s running on a Rural New Deal that highlights the ways in which a progressive vision resonates with rural communities,” said Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC Co-Chairs Pramila Jayapal, Mark Pocan, and Jamie Raskin. “In this moment, it is critical to elect candidates who are committed to fighting for reproductive justice, and whose records speak to a firm and true commitment to abortion rights. As a pro-choice pastor with a record of fighting to protect reproductive freedom in the state legislature, Erica brings a unique perspective and is someone we can count on to protect access to safe and legal abortion. We’re proud to endorse her campaign in North Carolina’s 1st congressional district.”

In 2020, the PAC raised $4.4 million and launched its first-ever independent expenditure arm, helping elect eight new candidates to Congress.
